
Mainers Add Local Name Schmidt to Mix
Left-handed hurler set to join Sanford staff
Sanford. ME- The Sanford
Mainers have announced a contract agreement with left-handed pitcher Mark
Schmidt. Schmidt, hailing from Gorham, ME, just finished up his sophomore
campaign at the University of Southern Maine.
Schmidt, at 5’11 and 190 pounds, was a perfect 6-0 for the Huskies staff in
2008. In 12 appearances including nine starts, the southpaw posted a 3.97 ERA
with two complete games. He fired 55.1 total innings and allowed 50 hits while
striking out 51 opposing hitters. He helped lead Southern Maine to a 36-14
overall record and a second-place finish in the Little East Conference.
Schmidt finished his 2007 freshman season with a 2-1 record and a solid 3.35
earned run average. The Gorham product was also a finalist in 2006 for Mr.
Baseball in the state of Maine. Schmidt is now the 11th pitcher currently listed
on the Mainers roster.
The Mainers return to the diamond Wednesday night at 6:30 at Goodall Park to
host the North Shore Navigators as part of a home-and-home series. Sanford will
travel to Lynn, MA on Thursday to take on the Navigators.
