Mainers Blanked by Swamp Bats 4-0
Will visit North Shore Sunday night.
Keene, NH – The Sanford
Mainers couldn’t solve Keene pitching all night as they were blanked on the
road, falling 4-0 to the Swamp Bats Saturday night at Alumni Field. Starter
Jason Bowman was the second consecutive Sanford starter to pitch into the eighth
inning but drops his first decision of the year.
The Swamp Bats got on the board in the second. After Bowman retired the first
five hitters he faced, Alex Lee homered on a 2-2 fastball to straightaway center
to give Keene an early 1-0 edge.
Keene would get some
insurance runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings. Josh Chester tripled
with one away. After an Evan Chambers strikeout with the infield drawn in, Lee
came through with an RBI single to right. In the bottom of the eighth, John Barr
singled with two on. Sanford had Keene baserunner Franco Valdez caught between
home and third, but Brian Harris overthrew Kevin Reimer at the plate allowing
Valdez to score. The Swamp Bats would add one more on an RBI double off the bat
of Paul Karmas to make it a 4-0 ballgame. The Mainers did not pose many threats
offensively all night, tallying just five hits. Sanford did not have a
baserunner reach further than second base.
Bowman picked up the loss. He lasted 7.2 innings and gave up four runs, two
earned on eight hits, walking none and striking out four. Craig Gullickson
earned his first win for the Swamp Bats. The southpaw went six shutout innings
and allowed just three Mainer hits.
