Mainers Drop Third Straight, Lose 8-2 at Lowell
Game shortened to seven innings due to rain.
Lowell, MA – Holding an
early 2-0 lead, the Sanford Mainers allowed eight unanswered runs as they drop
their third straight contest, this time 8-2 to the Lowell All-Americans in a
seven-plus inning rain-shortened contest Monday night at Stoklosa Alumni field.
Lowell’s offense had struggled coming into the ballgame. Through their first six
games, the All-Americans had only scored 13 times but reached more than half
that total Monday night.
With the game knotted up at two, the All-Americans busted it open in the bottom
half of the sixth. After a throwing error allowed Chris Rouches to score, Pat
McKenna hit a towering three-run homer to right field to give Lowell a four-run
cushion at 6-2. The All-Americans would tally two more insurance runs in the
bottom half of the seventh.
The Mainers would tally single runs in each of the second and third innings.
Devin Harris singled with one away in the second. He stole second and moved up
to third on a errant throw by catcher Matt Colantonio. He would score on a Kyle
Groth sacrifice fly. Moving to the top of the third, Mark Micowski and Steve
Brooks ripped back to back singles. Branson Joseph plated Micowski on an infield
single to give the Mainers an early two-run lead.
Jeff DeCarlo started for the Mainers. The southpaw was cruising through the
first three innings, but allowed two runs in the fourth. Tony Chisman saw his
personal two-game winning streak come to an end. After seven and two-thirds
innings of hitless baseball, Chisman finally surrendered a base hit. The righty
would end up allowing six runs if three innings. Lowell starter Mark Gormely
evened up his record at 1-1. The lefty allowed just two runs in seven innings of
work.
