Mainers Hand Keene First Loss of Season, 2-1
Lefty Mark Schmidt picks up first win

Sanford, ME – Behind solid pitching and early, timely hitting, the Sanford Mainers handed the Keene Swamp Bats their first loss of the year, 2-1 the final Wednesday night at Goodall Park. Devin Harris blasted a third-inning RBI double to left to plate Matt Nandin to give Sanford that 2-1 edge, a lead they would not relinquish.

Keene started the scoring in the first. Chris Tremblay singled to lead off the frame and moved to second on a John Barr walk. With runners now at second and third, Josh Chester hit a sharp groundball to Nandin at second base. Nandin threw out Chester, but Tremblay came into score on the play to give Keene a 1-0 edge.

The Mainers would get their first run in the second. With two outs and the bases empty, Brian Harris singled. After he stole second base, he came in to score on a Corey Hunt bloop single to left to knot the score at one.

Schmidt started for the Mainers. The southpaw went five and two-thirds innings and gave up one run on seven hits. Ryan Cole earned the save firing two and a third innings of scoreless baseball. Sean Tierney got the loss for the Swamp Bats. He went six innings and gave up the two early runs.
