Mainers’ Brian Harris
named NECBL Player of Week
Infielder enjoys red-hot start to July
Sanford. ME- The NECBL has announced that Sanford Mainers infielder Brian Harris
has been named the league’s player of the week.
Harris hit an astounding .750 during the first week of July, going nine for 12
at the plate to start the month of July. The Vanderbilt product also scored
seven times and added four RBIs for the first-place Mainers. Hailing from
Nashville, Harris also walked four times and held an on-base percentage of .813
during the week.
The 5’9, 180 pound right-handed hitter is batting at a .317 clip with four
doubles and eight runs driven-in on the 2008 summer campaign. The soon-to-be
junior at Vanderbilt has also played stellar defense for Sanford, spending most
of his time at shortstop as well as starting a few games at second base for
manager Joe Brown.
Harris just finished up his sophomore year at Vandy, hitting .268 in 42 games
with two homers and 23 RBIs. He also recorded just four errors defensively in
those 42 games on the infield. The Mainers continue their five-game homestand
Tuesday night against the Vermont Mountaineers, who Sanford has beaten twice in
the two matchups thus far this season. First pitch is set for 6:30.
