
Mainers Well Represented
in NECBL All-Star Game
Sanford sends five to Torrington, including two starters.
Sanford. ME- The NECBL has announced that
five Sanford Mainers have been chosen to participate in the league’s All-Star
Game Sunday night at Torrington. Both Kyle Groth and Matt Nandin have been
chosen as starters while Corey Hunt was selected as a reserve. Pat Lehman and
Tony Chisman represent the Mainers on the Northern Division’s pitching staff.
The five players selected from Sanford are tied for the most in the division.
Vermont is also sending five players.
Groth will start at first base for the North. In 28 games, the Cornell
University product is hitting .348 with four doubles, two homers, and a
team-leading 16 RBIs. Another quarter of the North’s infield will be occupied by
Nandin. The right-handed hitter from LeMoyne College will get the start at
shortstop and has hit .361 in 25 games with a .406 on-base percentage, almost
exclusively playing at second base. He is also one of six Mainers with double
digits in RBIs with 10. Hunt will be used as a reserve infielder at Torrington.
One of the hottest Sanford hitters in recent weeks, the Virginia Cavalier is
batting .333 with 10 RBIs. The versatile infielder has just one error on the
year, carrying a remarkable .984 fielding percentage.
Lehman will pitch one inning, most likely early in the ballgame. The 6’4, 210
pound right hander from Fair Lawn, NJ. has won each of his last four starts and
is now 4-0 in six appearances, The George Washington product boasts a
microscopic 0.90 ERA in 40 innings. He has struck out 36 through those 40
innings while only walking six. Opponents are hitting a miniscule .163 off
Lehman. Chisman will join the Northern Division’s bullpen, holding a 3-1 record
with three saves and a 2.79 ERA in a team-high 13 appearances. The Covington,
Ga. Native has recorded 21 strikeouts in 19.1 innings and is limiting the
opposition to a .154 batting average against him.
