Corey Hunt  IF  University of Virginia  Charlottesville, VA

Corey is a sophomore at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, his hometown.  He chose Virginia “for their nationally ranked education and the opportunity to play Division 1 baseball in the ACC.”  Corey is a switch hitting 6’ 0” infielder, who played shortstop at Monticello HS where he was a four year letter winner.  In addition, he was captain of the team for three years, and a two time all state selection.  In 2006, he was chosen as the State AA Player of the Year.  Corey is a left handed hitter who batted .431 as a junior and .415 as a senior at Monticello High.

Corey red shirted last Spring at Virginia.  Coach Brian O’Connor said, “Corey is going to be a great player in our program.”  He traveled with the team, including a trip to Boston for games against Boston College.  The first game was rained out, but the team got the opportunity to work out that day at Fenway Park.  One of Corey’s teammates is Jeremy Farrell, who is the son of Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell, who most likely had something to do with this practice at Fenway.

Last Summer, Corey played in the New York Collegiate Baseball League for the Saratoga Phillies with two of his Virginia teammates.  Saratoga finished the Summer at 25-13, losing in the Eastern Division finals.  Corey hit .290 in 24 games, and had a great .402 on base percentage.
