Jason Bowman  RHP  West Chester University   West Chester, PA

Jason is a junior at West Chester University in Pennsylvania.  He is coached by 2005 Sanford Mainers Coach Greg Mamula, who is very pleased that one of his players will be in Sanford next Summer.

Jason is a right handed pitcher from Downington, PA who is 6’4’’ tall and weighs 230 pounds.

As a freshman in 2006, he was named a 1st team all-conference relief pitcher and a 2nd team all-region relief pitcher in helping West Chester advance to the NCAA Division II World Series.  In 2006, Jason was 3-3 with 2 saves and had a 2.94 ERA.  He made 17 appearances, threw 52 innings and had 31 strikeouts and walked only 3.

As a sophomore in 2007, he was a 2nd team all-conference relief pitcher and a 2nd team all-region relief pitcher in helping West Chester advance to the NCAA Division II regional championship game.  In 2007, Jason was 5-2 with a 2.89 ERA, 21 appearances, 37 1/3 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts and 7 walks.

In the summer of 2007, Jason pitched for the Geneva Red Wings in the New York Collegiate Baseball League.  He was one of the league’s best pitchers with a 6-1 record, 1.15 ERA, 54 2/3 innings pitched with 40 strikeouts and only 2 walks.

Coach Mamula had the following to say about Jason.  “After being our closer as a freshman and sophomore, Jason will move to the starting rotation for us next spring.  As you can see from his stats, he is a “strike-thrower.”  Jason is a prototypical groundball pitcher.  He throws a high percentage of strikes using mainly a sinker, slider and splitter.  Infielders like playing behind Jason as he works quickly, throws strikes and gets groundballs.

Through his versatility, Jason will be able to help the Mainers win games, either starting or relieving.”
